Activities

The price for each day is £65 including drinks and a buffet style lunch.

Here are some of the acctivities we run

Art & Craft

Jewellery making, scrapbooking, painting-by-numbers, paper craft and card making are included in this session. This is solely for the individual’s pursuit of interest that they may wish to work on gradually over a few weeks.

Community Engagement

Becoming part of the local community is an essential part of self-development and confidence. Through these sessions we will be introducing ourselves to the locals who work on our High Street, whilst out food shopping, using money skills, budgeting and visiting local amenities such as The Hub, the library, cafes and tourist information. Becoming part of a community is a great way of improving social skills and becoming aware of what the area has to offer and how to support it. Basic food preparation will also be covered, as well as some housecraft skills needed for independent living.

Home Skills and Free Choice

These activities will help to develop household skills such as, hoovering, recycling and tidying up. When the tasks are completed, the clients will be able to relax and unwind until they are collected.

Independent Training Day

This is a wonderful opportunity to explore our local area, using buses, trams, and trains where possible. This will help with building confidence in planning journeys and researching days out, including budgeting, understanding timetables, and looking at seasonal opportunities. There may be an additional cost included and all visits are planned to benefit the client. This may include using a board game café in Newark, fruit picking in summer, visiting local towns and cities, experiencing a climbing wall, bike riding, Boccia tournaments at the local college, fishing, a trip to the cinema or other hands-on experience. More information will be provided and it is strongly recommend that clients invest in a young person’s railcard to save them money.

Outdoor Group Ramble

Using the outdoors is an essential part of a person’s well-being. The beautiful Lincolnshire countryside is the backdrop to visiting local woods, country parks and nature reserves. This is an opportunity to ‘walk and talk’, whilst promoting healthy living, exercise and learning about their environment. Dylan, our emotional support dog, will accompany us on most of these walks. During the walk, we will learn about map reading, den building, reading the weather, understanding nature and their habitats and the changing seasons. This offers a relaxed opportunity to have lunch outside too. Ideally, some form of outdoor or exercise clothing and footwear should be worn, and wellies are strongly recommended.

Textile Techniques

All materials are provided for this enjoyable and calming skill. We will be focusing on sewing, knitting, crochet, macrame and quilting. Using our knitting machine, we will be creating hats mitts as part of our enterprise, as well as making squares for baby blankets. Our website will display our creations as they are made.

The World Around Us

Welcome to the world of current affairs. Here we discuss the news, both locally and nationally, using the newspapers and magazines to understand what is happening in the world around us and how they view it. It is also a time to reflect on books and encourage reading, including visiting the local library and using audio books. Puzzles, word searches, board games and jigsaws are also part of this session, as is our regular general knowledge quiz.

Therapy Session

Therapy comes in many forms and will vary over the weeks. Some of the therapies on offer are music therapy, yoga, meditation, life coaching, journaling, stress management, movement therapy (dance and drama), solution-focused brief therapy and laughter therapy.

Upcycling Enterprise Projects

This is a very hands-on activity. Old furniture will be upcycled, painted and sometimes upholstered, to create a new finish for a product we will sell as part of our enterprise. This will require some woodwork, from grooving to heat treating, using tools, sanding and painting. But most importantly, the group will discuss ‘how’ they are going to transform the item and researching this. Other project will include building bird boxes and basic woodwork tasks.
